September 5th Build Day at Willamette Pass PDF Print E-mail

ATTENTION!!!!!! Update: Legions of dirt has committed to provide a BBQ dinner for after the build day. This will be served to a limited number of builders that stay until the end. Yet another great reason to make sure you come on down.

Downhill Coalition needs our help! September 5th will be the last day of the mountain bike season at Willamette Pass. In order to prepare for next year the trails need worked over so the snow will repack them over the winter.

For those of you that might not know, Willamette Pass is a lift assisted mountain bike park that is volunteer built and maintained. About 2 1/2 hours south of Salem, Willamette Pass has fast, enclosed lifts to access over 1500 feet of elevation and several trails that make for a fast, loose and dusty good time! Willamette has held races in the past, but due to lack of support and unofficial trail-building, have not held any races this year. The administration hopes to hold a racing series at Willamette Pass next year but nothing for sure yet. In addition to the riding, Willamette offers disc golf, hiking, sightseeing and geocaching. The lodge offers great burger baskets, sandwiches, snacks and various beverages including beer!

Willamette Pass opens at 10:00 am on Sunday morning. Scheduled trail maintenance will only take about half a day (we hope) so this will be the time to get some rides in. Jared from Downhill Coalition will be on hand to get lift passes to builders at no cost. If you haven't been down Willamette Pass this is a great chance.

Around 1:00 the work day begins. We will all meet in the parking lot and have a little lunch (not provided) and setup a plan on work to been done. At this time most of the trails will be CLOSED!!! Downhill Coalition has arranged for some snacks and mid mountain hydration. If you have tools, please bring them!!! There will be some on hand to use, but not enough to go around.

I hope that that Black Rock riders show a huge support for our brothers and sisters to the south. With support from BRMBA and other mountain bikers I hope that we can help a great 2011 riding season for Willamette Pass.

Ride Oregon logoJust went live this week... The "Ride Oregon" site created by Travel Oregon is live!  http://rideoregonride.com/

It's easy to find rides where you want to ride, and the "amenities" in the area of trail.   It's new, so you'll need to submit content - there's lots of mountain biking trails that could be added.   Use the Submit Ride form on site to send in a suggestion.

Note: Black Rock Mountain Bike Area is a featured Trail!

How did this site come to be?  It was recommended several years ago at an Oregon Bike Summit, and feedback provided over past two Bike Summit conferences.  Travel Oregon stepped up to make it happen, and it's a good start!   A central location to direct visitors to for where to ride when they visit Oregon is a good thing.

Rules Reminder / Dust Notice PDF Print E-mail

Important Reminders about the Black Rock Trails!

Hey there all; BRMBA wants to say THANK YOU to all trail users.  Things have been looking better in regards to people going to fast through the camp so thank you to everyone for slowing down and reminding everyone to be good neighbors to the camp.

Keep up the good work and keep you speed down!

NOW we ask everyone to be a good neighbor again, but in a different area.  With summer here and with the road now being dry and extremely dusty we ask that the biking community set a good example for ALL drivers using the Black Rock road.

Please slow down through the section of road just after the pavement where the homes are (or just before the pavement as you are heading back into town).

BE A GOOD NEIGHBOR and slow down so that you lessen the dust as much as possible past these homes.  I’m sure you would appreciate drivers doing the same for you if you lived in one of these homes!  The couple minutes in additional drive time will earn you good trail karma (just like trail building does).

When you see a home please slow down!

Local home owners will appreciate it!

Still please remember the normal Black Rock rules:

1.           Staying on the road that leads up to the trails (please don’t trespass on the camp property; don’t drive past the camp entrance do not park in the camp field)!

2.           NEVER speed down the road through the camp at the end of the day!  The MAX speed is 15 MPH; better yet go slower, enjoy the view and wave and say hi to the campers!

3.           Be courteous when parked, don’t change in direct view of passers by; remember there is no alcohol allowed in the parking lot (it’s a county road and it’s not legal).  Please remember this is a church camp and lots of kids are coming and going, they don’t need to see your bare backside!  Watch your language and please no loud music!

4.           Leash your dog while one the camp property; DON’T let you dog use the camp field as a bathroom (kids play here and hey you don’t like falling in dog do-do and you don’t want that on your shoes!).

PLEASE if it’s your first time to BR, take time to read the rules; If you are a REGULAR at BR then please be vocal, remind people when they aren’t following the rules (be nice, but SPEAK up!).  IT IS UP TO ALL OF US USERS TO MAKE SURE EVERYONE FOLLOWS THE RULES.  All we need is that one person to ruin it all for all of us!
