First Time To Blackrock And Don’t Own Body Armor?

Click here for a great article showing that you can wear lycra and enjoy all the hardwork that BRMBA has built for varying user groups. Remember that you don’t always have to “Go Big or Go Home”, you can “Go Big or Go Around” and have a great time.

Blackrock can be ridden by riders on hardtail 26/29ers, full suspension mtn bikes of varying wheel sizes and travel. We have even seen BMX bikes and unicycles out on the trails.  At a minimum riders are asked to wear a helmet when on the Mt. Brown trails. Elbow/knee pads, gloves and full face helmets are strongly encouraged but not required. Chest/back body armor are also a good idea but are bulky and hot when climbing. Many riders like to think of Blackrock as armor assisted cross country(aka Freeriding). Many riders push their 40+lb bikes up and have a great time descending on the longer travel bikes that excel in railing the bikes into the corners and jumps. But 20-30lb XC or all-mountain bikes can have a great time.

November Maintenance Day

Great progress for November’s Maintenance Day

We had approximately 25 people come today who worked from 9am to 3pm to help maintain trails and complete features today at Blackrock. People arrived in the morning to sign in and be allocated to a trail. Work was done on Bonzai, Sickter Gnar and Grannie’s Kitchen.

Work was completed on a Grannie’s Kitchen 2 rebuild and has now been named the E-Rock Village. I truly took a village of bikers to allocate all the materials. A 6 foot drop off an impressive structure that bends around the outside of a tree.

Some heavy digging went down on Grannie’s Kitchen 2, there were four people moving dirt and shaping the landing zone while Eric and Peter worked to get the last few things completed on the structure.

Enough progress was made for Andrew VandenBrink and Shane Taylor to give the feature it’s first test.

Bonzai 1: Louis Brumbaugh and his crew removed one of the A-frame ladders and replaced it with a table.

Sickter Gnar 5: Chris Eggen with his crew moved some dirt and added new shaping. It is looking nice, very fast and flowy.

Thank you to everyone who volunteers their time and effort to continue to make Blackrock what it is.

BRMBA Maintenance Days Scheduled

BRMBA Maintenance Days

We will have build days every month during alternating Saturday’s and Sunday’s from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. Riders who plan to ride afterwards can ride their bikes into basic training and get a lift up to the work site. Others who aren’t bringing their bikes can drive to basic training. We really need a strong showing this year to repair this years impact to the trail system and to ensure future shuttle days. We have some tools to provide people with, but bringing your own shovel, hammer, rake, mattock, etc will always help. Make sure to bring sturdy shoes and weather appropriate clothing. We work rain or shine and will cancel the event in certain weather conditions that are unsafe to the build crews.

No Scheduled Maintenance Days at this time.  We will be scheduling them starting September 2013 in July’s BRMBA Meeting.
